Community in Ireland

A community in Mayo is defined by two main characteristics, geographical location and common interest. A community of interest may be defined as a community of people who share a common interest or passion. Given the rural nature of Mayo, community groups are generally focused on agricultural, environmental, as well as cultural, social and economic interests. A place-based community is a community of people who are bound together because of where they reside. In Mayo a place-based community is generally centred on the parish, a geographical area defined by Church boundaries.

A RECENT community in Mayo may be defined as a community of citizens who have established a legal entity with Articles and Memorandum of Association registered with the Company Register Office of Ireland. The community comprises of citizens who are living in, working in or making use of land where a RECENT pilot has been identified and are beneficiaries of a RECENT service either economically, socially or culturally.
