Stakeholders in Finland

Communities and pilot studies

Below are the definitions and an example.

Community: A group of people in the NPA programme area that are able to gain direct/indirect benefits from the pilot. An ideal community is relatively small and remote but has the necessary resources to participate in the project.

Pilot study: The actual technological solution/implementation that contributes to the community’s public infrastructure. The pilot study is the preliminary evaluation of the feasibility, costs, potential impacts and scale of the pilot to be realized. When realized, it should increase the energy self-sufficiency, share of renewable energy or improve energy/material efficiency of the community.

Example: Evaluation of a possible co-digestion plant for the municipality of Sodankylä is a pilot study. The community is the people that are in the same wastewater network provided by Sodankylä Vesi Oy (Sodankylä Water).
